The Lost Recipe for Happiness

Haunted by an accident of which she was the lone survivor, Elena Alvarez knows how to defy the odds. And when she is suddenly offered the opportunity she’s been waiting for – the challenge of running her own kitchen in a world-class restaurant – she knows it is a chance she has to take, even if it does mean relocating to Aspen, where she doesn’t know a soul, and usurping the job of a notably volatile chef.

So with her faithful dog and her grandmother’s recipes, she arrives in Colorado to find a restaurant in as desperate need of a fresh start as she is – and a man whose passionate approach to food and life rivals her own. For Elena, old ghosts don’t die quietly, but some remain with her for a reason. And, through all the ups and downs, she knows the chance for happiness is worth every risk.

1 – What are the top reasons small businesses should belong to the Chamber?

I believe that all businesses of any size should support the local small business community and one of the best avenues to do that is through your local Chamber of Commerce. Not only is the Chamber in touch with the Governmental and Political arenas that greatly effect our local economy but they are looking for new ways to educate us on what changes are taking place in our community and in our nation as well. The Chamber is also a great way to network with other local business and in turn grow your business through establishing report through relationship building.

2 – What have you personally enjoyed most about being a Chamber Ambassador?

Meeting other business professionals. I have built my database not only from my clients and referrals but a huge chunk of it is from the professionals I have met at various business functions through networking as well as through volunteering with the Chamber to go out and meet with new and existing members regarding their membership. I view my Chamber membership like I would a gym membership. I can have the best of intentions but unless I get out there and work to meet people through the Chamber I haven’t done anything more than have a good intention. My biggest victory as an ambassador was when I realized that it wasn’t about meeting people and hoping to get their business, rather it is the value that they can add to every other person I know. I realized that by listening to the people around me for their needs whether it’s getting their lawn maintained by a professional or financial planning that I know someone that can help them achieve their personal and professional goals. By doing this and being more focused on the people around me and how I can grow their businesses, I have in turn reaped benefits beyond my expectations!

3 – Tell us a little bit about your business.
With over half a decade of experience in the lending industry, I have been able to create a business at Front Range Home Mortgage based off of referrals from satisfied clients to realtors and other professionals in the Pikes Peak Region. My mission is to become your trusted mortgage advisor and to help guide you through the many loan programs that will be available to you. Also to assist you in creating a financial strategy that will help put you on the road to your financial goals. I can be reached at lori@loriloanlady.com and I would love to speak with you regarding your financial needs or how I can help your business grow through referrals.

Recent Achievements: Recognized as the outstanding Chamber Ambassador of the month for January 2008.
